The Lovable Siamese Cat
The Siamese cat is a popular breed in America. Its good looks and lovable disposition makes him a favorite of many households. Originally from Thailand, the Siamese cat has acclimated well in North America and claims his territory in the many hearts of Americans.
Through history, this breed was thought to bring good luck and protection, as well as prosperity – maybe, because it was found in many wealthy homes, and even palaces. Their migration traces from Thailand to Europe, England, and eventually to America.
The Siamese is a beautiful animal. Its color is usually light, and gradually darkens, with the darkest around the ears, feet, legs, face, and tail. The eyes are beautifully slanted, usually blue, and the body slim, elongated, and elegant. The hair is short and there are variations to the colors. Their lifespan is about 15-20 years and the weight ranges to up to 16 pounds. Their lovable temperament is what makes them such cute pets, besides their looks.
They are extremely affectionate and love to play. They request their owner’s attention more than any other breed, and they may appear to be needy. They like a lot of attention from their owners, and prefer to be with people. They form strong bonds with their owners. They are also very social, and like the company of other cats, they do not like to be alone. Siamese cats are also very vocal, so if you want a quiet friend, maybe this is not the breed for you.
There are over ten breeds that descend from the Siamese, mixed with other breeds. Some of them are Burmese, Ocicat, Balinese, Himalayan … Their inquisitive and intelligent minds, along with a loving nature, makes the Siamese a candidate for mixing. The pricing of a Siamese cat depends on the lineage and characteristics, the purer the more expensive it will be. However, if you want a Siamese cat you do not have to pay a lot of money; there are many rescue groups and shelters where you can find one. A good home and tons of love are a requirement for these friendly and social creatures.
Siamese cats are perfect as a companion to older people, as they like to interact, and “talk” with their owners. They love to spend time in your lap, and sleep with you. They will become best pals and a member of the family. They will follow you around and will seem to be interested in anything you do.
When thinking of getting a Siamese cat, consider how its breed traits and social interaction will match the style of your family. If your family is always on the go, and very active in outside activities, maybe this breed is not for you because it requires a lot of attention and social interaction. Before getting a cat, do a little research on the type of breed (if you are getting a pure breed) to make the best selection according to your lifestyle. This rule applies to any type of pet.
